OER - Taking and sharing pictures

I have given up on being a photographer... 'snapographer' is more accurate, though not as etymologically sound. I don't take photos, I snap whatever gets my attention all thanks to the wonderful cheapness of digital camera memory. No longer am I restrained by 24 shots (23 if you count the first one when you're trying to make sure the film's actually ready to use); inevitably this makes me less insistent on a perfect shot. I have a 'snap' to 'photo' ratio of about 10:1, that is, from every ten snaps I take at random one is usually OK.

This week in "Composing free and open online educational resources" our task is to get snappi - errr, photographing, and to share the results.

The hints from the Digital Photography School were useful, as were those from the Wikimedia Commons wiki. As a recent GIMP user (in my quest to go open source) I also found the tutorials useful.

I've uploaded three photos to Flickr, one a modification performed using GIMP.

Flickr was exceptionally easy to use and set permissions for, and I was able to load the cow on up to Wikimedia with few problems, though the difference between 'Source' and "Author' is lost on me!

In Wikimedia there were many photos of Auckland, none the same as mine. There were many nicer cows. There were plenty of wonderful Auckland ones on Flickr, not surprising as it's a very photogenic city. One was similar to mine, but I remain proud of my own effort!

Nice, and great fun.

I think your cow is absolutely great photo. It looks almost like the Windows XP desktop image with the cow in it. :-)
